Introducing my latest car my 2002 Audi A4 Avant 1.9TDi

Audi A4 Low MPG Diesel v Petrol2002 Audi A4 Avant 18" Alloys

This is my latest car. Its a 2002 Audi A4 Avant (130 Bhp) I'm getting 46 MPG Over the duration of a tank.
This gives me a range of up to 600 miles on a tank. Usually around 540 miles.

The 130 Bhp model is alot quicker than my previous 90 BHP model (see below)

The ride is smooth and the engine is has alot of torque so is a pleasure to drive as it feels alot quicker than it really is.

The boot was the main reason i bought this model as i regularly mountain bike. I can get my 2004 Marin Mount Vision full suspension bike straight into the back easily (17.5 inch frame) . My hardtail 2007 Specialized Rockhopper (17 inch frame) needs to have the front wheel taken off to fit in.

You can fit up to 1.8 Meters in length and 1m Wide into the back is the general rule. The seats split fold but there is a bar across the back of the seats for the dog guard and the cover. I cannot work out how to remove this and without removing it you can only split fold the small seat down and not the side and middle seat. If anyone knows how to sort this please email me.

Audi A4 Saloon 1.9TDi (90 bhp) 1999 Model

Audi A4 Saloon 1999 MPG Figures Audi MPG Figures 1999 TDI Diesel v MPG

This was my first fuel efficient car. After petrol prices start to go crazy My Petrol S3 had to go. This car cost me around 2000 pounds for a 1999 model. It was a fairly clean example. The car would average around 43 MPG calculated manually. (it had no computer)

The ride is externally comfortable this is no sport cars so the suspension is very soft. Great for going over speed bumps without worrying about my spine.

The 90 BHP engine is very underpowered. The car is slow, but for most journeys this is not a problem. There are options to chip these to 110 BHP but i resisted that. The chip makers claim that the fuel economy improves because greater horse power means you use your right foot less and so conserve fuel. I wonder if that's true in the real world.. ?

This was my Audi S3 Quattro. I immediately upgraded the wheels to the RS4 18"alloys as these improve the look of the car no end. The wheels do however make for much harder ride with lo pro tyres.

I was averaging 30MPG on the onboard computer but working out manually showed this overreading a bit and 27MPG was more realistic. I think that was not bad considering the engine power. I drive high miles on non motorways normally so quite often sit in the 50-60 mph zone where the engine is quite efficient.

Porsche Boxster 3.2 S (2000 model)

This was my Porsche Boxster S. Its a fantastic car to drive. In its S Guide its alot quicker than people think. I had tested a 2.7 and there is a massive difference between the performance of the 2. I was getting an average of 23 MPG on my tank. My journey was mostly motorway trips of 45 miles each way.

This car can be driven very sensibly indeed and requires very little throttle to move away quite quickly driving like this will return you the figure mentioned above. .Driven flat out the car changes greatly with the engine note changing and you will be getting <20 MPG
